Discovering unauthorized charges on my iTunes account was a shocking experience. My first step was to secure my account. I changed my Apple ID to a different email and updated my password. However, while I was doing this, I received another email alerting me to a new charge—this time $9.53—another unauthorized purchase of credits for the same game.

Feeling increasingly vulnerable, I immediately removed my PayPal details from iTunes. I also changed my PayPal password and disputed all the fraudulent charges. Yet, what I uncovered next was even more disconcerting.

Examining my purchase history, I found receipts that confirmed multiple unauthorized transactions. This seemed to be part of a broader issue affecting many users. Reports on the game's iTunes store page indicated similar problems, especially around holiday weekends, although complaints date back to mid-May. Typically, victims saw losses averaging around $43, but the amounts varied significantly.

Alarmingly, this hacking problem appears to affect a wide range of iTunes users, not just iPhone owners. This suggests a larger breach—possibly impacting iTunes itself or even PayPal accounts—since the hackers seem to have access to sensitive account information.

Sega announced that "Kingdom Conquest" had reached over a million downloads, but with these reports surfacing, it's hard to tell how many of those downloads were legitimate purchases versus accounts compromised by hackers looking to siphon credits.

Both Sega and Apple are aware of the issue. I reached out to Betanews for comments, but neither company has responded yet. I decided to share my experience without waiting for official statements because this seems to be a widespread and serious security concern.

According to a post on the official Sony forum, Sega's team is investigating similar claims. An administrator, frankfrank, clarified that neither Sega nor "Kingdom Conquest" is intentionally malicious. They emphasized that the game alone cannot charge accounts—meaning the attacker must have gained access through other means, such as hacking into user credentials or exploiting vulnerabilities in iTunes or associated services.

This raises questions about whether Apple’s systems have been compromised. Historically, there were issues with counterfeit gift cards in early 2009, so the possibility of a larger breach isn’t far-fetched.
